As military bases and federal facilities face growing environmental challenges—particularly PFAS contamination, hazardous waste management, and munitions cleanup—this collaboration ensures that critical defense sites remain operational while meeting strict environmental standards.
The USACE Southwestern Division plays a vital role in managing infrastructure and environmental projects for the Department of Defense (DoD). By partnering with Arcadis, the Corps of Engineers is leveraging cutting-edge engineering and remediation expertise to support military installations, civil works, and federal agencies across the region.
A major focus of the contract is PFAS investigations, as these toxic chemicals continue to pose risks to military bases and surrounding communities. Arcadis will conduct detailed assessments of PFAS levels in drinking water, soil, and groundwater, ensuring compliance with the Clean Water Act and CERCLA.
Additionally, the partnership will facilitate the cleanup of formerly used defense sites (FUDS), removing munitions hazards from private and public lands while safeguarding local populations.
Alan Brookes, CEO of Arcadis, highlighted the importance of this collaboration:
“The Army Corps of Engineers is a critical partner in ensuring safe, sustainable, and mission-ready defense sites. Our expertise in remediation and environmental compliance will help protect military facilities and the communities around them.”
As a managing partner in the Versar-Arcadis Joint Venture, Arcadis is one of four firms selected for this five-year contract, demonstrating its continued leadership in federal environmental engineering projects.
This partnership underscores the Army Corps of Engineers’ role as a key force in environmental stewardship and military readiness, ensuring that America’s defense infrastructure remains resilient, compliant, and sustainable for the future.
