RESA Power Expands Transformer Services with 3MD Acquisition

Strategic deal adds technical depth and boosts East Coast coverage

RESA Power has acquired Virginia-based 3MD Power Services, reinforcing its position in the transformer services market while extending its operational presence in the South Atlantic. The move enhances RESA’s technical capacity in high-voltage transformer maintenance, testing, and repair, while accelerating its ability to support large-scale projects across the eastern U.S.

Founded in 2019, 3MD Power Services built a national track record by supporting complex transformer systems, particularly for utilities and industrial customers navigating aging infrastructure. The company’s integration into RESA Power brings additional field expertise and a local operational base in Roanoke, Virginia—key to RESA’s strategy of building regional service hubs with national backing.

A standout element of the deal is the expansion of RESA’s transformer dielectric fluid processing fleet, which improves turnaround times and service scalability for transformer life-extension work. This added capacity strengthens the company’s response capabilities in high-demand regions while enabling more efficient service delivery.

Growth Backed by Strategy and Alignment

Beyond the technical and geographic synergies, the acquisition signals operational alignment between the two companies. 3MD Power Services has been recognized for its hands-on, customer-centric approach and technical thoroughness—traits that match RESA Power’s growth model.

By bringing 3MD’s team into its network, RESA gains seasoned transformer specialists with deep experience managing critical power infrastructure. At the same time, 3MD’s customers now have access to a broader suite of components and engineered solutions supported by RESA Power’s larger service infrastructure and resources.

The acquisition is part of RESA Power’s broader private equity–backed strategy under Kohlberg, focused on building a unified, technically advanced service platform for high-voltage electrical systems. With four acquisitions completed in 2025, the company continues to consolidate key capabilities in response to demand from sectors like data centers, heavy industry, and utilities dealing with grid modernization and electrification.

With more than 50 locations across North America, RESA Power is positioning itself as a scalable partner for customers requiring high-reliability transformer and switchgear services in a rapidly evolving energy landscape.
