North Star BlueScope Steel is set to advance its energy strategy and sustainability goals at its Delta, Ohio, mini-mill through a new partnership with GridBeyond. This collaboration will integrate GridBeyond’s advanced energy management technologies to manage up to 90 MW of energy, with plans to expand to 200 MW. The initiative focuses on improving grid balancing, boosting profitability, and significantly reducing carbon emissions.
North Star’s participation in the Five Coincident Peak (5CP) program is central to this partnership. The advanced energy management technology will enable precise predictions to minimize the mill’s load impact during peak demand periods on the northwestern Ohio electricity grid. This approach will reduce the need for spinning reserves and provide substantial savings by cutting capacity charges.
In addition to these advancements, a forthcoming webinar will explore how technology can further optimize energy strategies. The session will highlight how machine learning models improve price forecasting and trading strategies, helping businesses maximize revenue and operational efficiency. Key topics will include:
