The city of Hartford, CT, Constellation and Bloom Energy have begun construction of a fuel-cell powered microgrid system that will mitigate costs and supply backup for a part of the Parkville neighborhood of the city.
The press release says that the 800 KW system during non-emergency operation will power four buildings – an elementary school, a library, a senior center and a health facility. In emergency mode, those buildings will be power and a fuel station and grocery store added. Excess electricity will help power four other schools, the release says.
The project is the first being developed through Connecticut’s Department of Energy & Environmental Protection’s Microgrid Grant Program. GI Energy is working with the city on the project.
