Bridgestone Launches Tire with 70% Recycled Materials

New commercial tire and tech system push fleet sustainability forward

Bridgestone Americas has introduced a demonstration commercial tire made with 70% recycled and renewable materials for commercial fleets. Launched at WasteExpo 2025, the tire showcases Bridgestone’s commitment to material circularity without sacrificing durability or performance, particularly in high-wear urban waste operations.

Based on the M870 model—built for urban fleets where all-position durability and scrub resistance are critical—the new tire incorporates circular materials including synthetic rubber derived from butadiene and halo butyl rubber, circular carbon black, and responsibly sourced natural rubber. The company has employed a Mass Balance approach to accurately account for the volume of sustainable inputs, even when they become indistinguishable from conventional components during production.

This method has earned the tire ISCC PLUS certification, a third-party standard that validates sustainability across complex supply chains. Rather than a proof-of-concept, Bridgestone positions this tire as an actionable solution. A limited number of units will begin testing on waste collection fleets this month, aimed at helping operators reduce their environmental footprint in the near term.

Tech-Driven Tire Management to Boost Fleet Efficiency

Alongside the recycled tire, Bridgestone revealed its new Drive-Over System—an in-yard monitoring platform that provides real-time tire diagnostics. The system is equipped with embedded plates that scan vehicles as they pass over, capturing tire tread depth data instantly.

This helps fleet managers detect irregular wear patterns early, better plan maintenance schedules, and avoid unnecessary tire replacements. By improving tire lifecycle visibility, the system supports operational uptime and smarter budgeting.

Both innovations align with Bridgestone’s broader E8 Commitment, with the tire contributing to the company’s focus on ecological responsibility, while the Drive-Over System advances the efficiency goals essential to modern fleet operations.

Bridgestone’s demonstration tire is part of a larger vision to close the loop in commercial tire production. With materials potentially sourced from waste collected by the very fleets using the tires, the company is signaling a move toward full circularity.
