Boralex Expands U.S. Renewable Portfolio with 450 MW New York Solar Projects

Boralex Inc. is advancing its U.S. expansion with two major solar developments in New York State, securing contracts through the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) for 450 MW of renewable energy. The agreements, granted as part of NYSERDA’s 2024 Renewable Energy Standard Competitive Solicitation, mark a pivotal step in Boralex’s strategy to deepen its footprint in the U.S. renewable sector.

Strategic Growth and Market Expansion

The two solar installations—the Fort Covington Solar Project (250 MW) in Franklin County and the Two Rivers Solar Project (200 MW) in St. Lawrence County—reinforce Boralex’s commitment to New York’s clean energy transition. The projects are pending state permitting approval and are expected to begin construction in 2026, with commissioning anticipated in 2028.

“New York is committed to building a clean energy economy, and Boralex is honored to contribute to achieving the State's renewable energy targets,” said Patrick Decostre, President and CEO of Boralex. “We appreciate NYSERDA’s confidence in our projects. New York is a strategic market for Boralex, and we are proud to support the State’s clean energy goals.”

Investment and Local Economic Impact

The company’s expansion aligns with the growing demand for green energy investments in the U.S. Once operational, the projects will generate enough electricity to power approximately 105,000 homes, create 300–400 construction jobs, and establish long-term operational roles in the region. Local leaders have voiced strong support for the projects, citing job creation, increased tax revenue, and sustainable economic development.

“This is very exciting news for our town and the state as it looks to achieve its climate goals,” said Mark Peets, Supervisor of the Town of Brasher. “Boralex has been transparent, responsive, and a reliable partner throughout the development process. We look forward to the economic benefits these projects will bring.”

Public-Private Collaboration in Renewable Energy

Boralex’s partnership with NYSERDA reflects a broader trend of public-private collaboration driving renewable energy adoption in the U.S. “Renewable energy projects like Fort Covington and Two Rivers are crucial to New York's clean energy transition,” said NYSERDA President and CEO Doreen M. Harris. “These agreements will spur economic investment while providing affordable, locally sourced energy.”

The projects reinforce Boralex’s North American growth strategy, with continued investments in solar and wind energy. “Our execution of these contracts reflects our strategic focus on expanding our U.S. renewable energy platform,” said Hugues Girardin, EVP and General Manager North America, Boralex. “Our teams’ expertise and dedication continue to propel Boralex’s success in response to strong demand for green electricity.”
