Aspen Power Acquires Two NJ Community Solar Projects

Deal with Ecogy Energy boosts Aspen’s distributed solar portfolio

Aspen Power has acquired two mid-scale community solar projects in New Jersey from Ecogy Energy, reinforcing its position in the region's distributed energy sector. Totaling just over one megawatt of direct current (MWdc) capacity, the Millville and Ocean Township installations are nearing construction and expected to generate more than 1.1 million kilowatt-hours in their first operational year.

Both projects fall within Atlantic City Electric and Jersey Central Power & Light utility territories, helping to diversify service coverage and subscriber reach. New Jersey’s strong regulatory environment and growing demand for local clean energy solutions make these locations well-positioned for long-term performance.

Ecogy Energy, known for its focus on underserved commercial and industrial market segments, brings its development expertise to the table while Aspen Power will take on financing, asset management, and subscriber operations. This division of labor allows each company to specialize while accelerating project timelines and mitigating development risk.

Consolidation and Collaboration Fuel Clean Energy Growth

This transaction reflects broader trends in clean energy, where developers and asset managers are aligning to streamline deployment and maximize operational efficiency. Aspen Power’s acquisition strategy across multiple states points to sustained confidence in distributed solar, even as the sector navigates shifting policy dynamics.

Dan Gulick, EVP of Community Solar at Aspen Power, emphasized the need for collaborative models to scale impact and bring solar access to more communities. “Solar is now the most affordable source of new power in America, and even with challenging political headwinds, we are successfully bringing projects online that lower costs for subscribers, generate reliable income for property owners, and support New Jersey’s ambitious clean energy goals. By building on Ecogy’s strong foundation, we are not only helping to decarbonize the grid, but also driving long-term economic and environmental benefits for local communities. At this critical moment for renewable energy, strong partnerships between developers and operators will be the key to sustained growth.”

For Ecogy, the deal allows continued focus on project origination and pipeline growth, while Aspen ensures long-term asset viability and customer engagement. Jack Bertuzzi, Principal, Ecogy Energy remarked: “It’s great to have a partnership with Aspen Power, who see the value in these distributed generation projects, and the outsized value they bring to the grid and the surrounding communities.”
