AI Cameras Crack Down on EV Charger Misuse

Zevtron and SpotGenius team up to enforce better EV space use

Electric vehicle infrastructure is getting smarter—and stricter. Zevtron, a Carlsbad-based EV charging solutions provider, has teamed up with SpotGenius to roll out AI-driven surveillance across EV charging stations nationwide. Their goal: address one of the sector’s most frustrating issues—keeping chargers available for EV drivers who actually need them.

By integrating SpotGenius’ Vision AI with Zevtron’s established charging platform, the system introduces around-the-clock camera monitoring that can flag everything from gas-powered vehicles blocking EV spaces to electric cars overstaying their welcome post-charge. The technology also includes license plate verification, helping confirm whether a vehicle using the charger is authorized.

Importantly, the system doesn’t just detect violations—it acts on them. Real-time alerts are pushed to property owners, site managers, or enforcement teams, allowing faster resolution of issues that can otherwise tie up charging availability. Each violation is logged with time-stamped imagery, creating a detailed history that can support compliance efforts and inform site-level policy updates.

“By integrating real-time AI vision monitoring with our platform, we’re not only ensuring that charging infrastructure is used as intended, but we’re also maximizing charger availability for drivers who rely on them.”  said Zevtron’s founder, Bob Andrews,  who noted that “This partnership with SpotGenius takes EV charging management to the next level.”

Smarter Tools for Property Owners and Charging Networks

For property owners, commercial developers, and campus operators, the integrated system offers operational and financial upside. By automating detection and enforcement, the platform reduces the need for manual monitoring while providing data insights that can guide long-term planning—like optimizing charger placement or updating fee structures.

The tech is already being deployed across a range of property types—from airports and universities to retail centers and office campuses—making it adaptable across industries. The data layer enables trend tracking, showing when, where, and how often violations occur, which can support smarter resource allocation or even inform public-private partnerships.

According to SpotGenius CEO Shabbir Karimi, the collaboration delivers critical visibility into space utilization. Their Vision AI platform, built by a team with deep roots in parking analytics, is designed for robust enforcement and real-time responsiveness. Zevtron complements this with a hardware-agnostic platform that integrates with existing parking systems, ensuring revenue control stays with the property owner.

As EV adoption accelerates, smarter infrastructure management tools like these are becoming less of a luxury and more of a necessity. This partnership reflects a broader industry move toward tech-enabled enforcement to keep pace with rising demand and avoid infrastructure bottlenecks.
