Siemens will be the long term partner on water and energy infrastructure projects at the Corpus Christi Army Depot (CCAD), according to the vendor.
The company was awarded the $24 million energy savings performance contract (ESPC) by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Engineering and Support Center. The release says that the deal is an effort to comply with Executive Order 13693, which mandates that federal facilities reduce energy consumption by 2.5 percent annually and potable water consumption by 2 percent per year by 2025.
The release says that most of the upgrades will be performed by Siemens’ small business partners. For example, MCB Lighting and Electrical Inc. -- a Siemens’ protégé company under the DoD Mentor-Protégé Program – will improve lighting at about 30 buildings at the facility. This impacts about 2 million gross feet of manufacturing, assembly and support structures, the release says.
They contract will result in a reduction of almost 20 percent in energy consumption and savings of 14 percent.
In June, Siemens Government Technologies was awarded an ESPC, which enables it to bid on design, construction and operations of energy savings federal projects.
