Virginia’s Green Building Leadership Continues in 2024

Virginia maintained its strong commitment to sustainability in 2024, with over 20 million square feet of buildings earning LEED certification across 100 projects. The state ranked among the Top 10 States for LEED for the 12th consecutive year, reinforcing its leadership in green building initiatives.

Several high-profile projects received LEED certifications, demonstrating energy efficiency, resource conservation, and sustainable design:

New Green Building Policies

Virginia also saw advancements in sustainability policy. Richmond adopted Ordinance 2024-271, requiring Sustainable Design Standards (SDSs) for city-funded projects. The policy mandates LEED certification for buildings and Envision certification for infrastructure, ensuring long-term environmental benefits.

Looking Ahead to 2025

  • Project Highlights:
