The facility will generate about 18,000 MW of renewable energy. Since the award of the contract in December, 2014, the Army and SunPower have worked to finalize the technical and legal details of the project, the story said. The solar array, which will occupy 66 acres, is expected to be operation by December. The arrangement is based upon a 27-year renewable energy services agreement and lease with SunPower.

In January, the Army said that it signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Apex Clean Energy that will provide 65 MW of solar and wind energy to Fort Hood in Texas.
