Reju Launches First Regeneration Hub, Revolutionizing Textile Recycling

Posted

Reju, a textile-to-textile regeneration pioneer, has officially opened its first operational unit, Regeneration Hub Zero, in Frankfurt, Germany.

Reju is a materials regeneration company dedicated to innovative solutions for recycling polyester textiles and PET waste. Through proprietary technology, Reju aims to build a global circular ecosystem that reduces plastic waste and contributes to a more sustainable future.

The opening of the Germany unit comes just one year after the company’s incorporation in Paris, France. The Hub, constructed in record time, is expected to begin deliveries by 2025.

A Circular Textile System for the Future

Owned by global engineering giant Technip Energies, Reju is utilizing cutting-edge technology developed by IBM Research to create a circular textile system focused on recovering, regenerating, and recirculating textile waste—starting with polyester. The collaborative expertise of Reju’s specialized team, coupled with the vast experience of Technip Energies, positions the company to scale its operations at an unprecedented pace.

A critical aspect of Reju's mission is ensuring traceability from textile waste to regenerated material. By intercepting waste that would otherwise be buried, burned, or dumped, Reju produces Reju Polyester, a sustainable material with a 50% lower carbon footprint than virgin polyester. Their ultimate goal is to deliver a product that is not only cleaner but can also be infinitely regenerated, contributing to a more sustainable future for the textile industry.

Partnerships and Global Infrastructure

To support this circular system, Reju is forming partnerships with upstream companies to recover, collect, and sort textiles, addressing a gap in the existing infrastructure. Reju’s CEO, Patrik Frisk, emphasizes the urgency of their work, starting with polyester—the most pressing issue in textile waste. Globally, 92 million tons of textile waste are produced each year, with less than 1% currently being recycled.

Frisk, former CEO of Under Armour and Aldo Group, highlights the broken nature of the current system, where finite resources are extracted, and responsibility for end-of-life is neglected. Reju aims to change this by unlocking new systems and forging key partnerships worldwide. The Regeneration Hub Zero represents the first major step in demonstrating how advanced technology can tackle global textile waste.
