Red Sea Global (RSG), the developer behind the regenerative tourism destinations The Red Sea and AMAALA in Saudi Arabia, has recently secured seven LEED certifications for its properties, highlighting its efforts in sustainable construction and design within the luxury hospitality sector.

Sustainable Luxury in Saudi Arabia

The company received six LEED certifications for properties at The Red Sea destination, including three Platinum certifications for high-end resorts including Six Senses Southern Dunes, The St. Regis Red Sea Resort, and Nujuma, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve.

RSG also obtained LEED for Cities and Communities pre-certification at the Platinum level for the AMAALA masterplan. This approach extends sustainability beyond individual buildings to include entire communities.

Features and Renewable Energy

RSG's certified properties feature passive design techniques, energy-efficient technologies, sustainable material selection, and water conservation strategies. The properties are also supported by building management systems and use treated sewage effluent for irrigation to minimize environmental impact.

All six newly certified properties at The Red Sea are powered by solar energy, connected to the site's renewable energy infrastructure, which aims to avoid 575,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually during Phase One of the project.

The company’s sustainability initiatives also include transportation infrastructure. The Red Sea International Airport (RSI) is the only airport in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries powered entirely by solar energy, aiming to set a regional benchmark for sustainable air travel.

RSG was recognized by the US Green Building Council on its 2024 LEED Power Builders list, making it the only developer outside the United States to receive this distinction.
