EnviroLeaders work under the mentorship of Sonoma Ecology Center educators and environmental professionals. The program emphasizes practical job skills, teamwork, and community building while addressing climate change and sustainability challenges.
Applications are due August 23, 2025 and selected participants will begin in September. The program runs for one semester, with a structured schedule combining field work, training, and collaborative projects.
Since its launch, the EnviroLeaders program has prepared more than 300 local teens for academic and career paths in environmental science, sustainable agriculture, and community leadership. Alumni have gone on to roles in conservation organizations, environmental education, and ecological restoration.
Former participant Ava Castro, who completed the program three times, now serves on the Sonoma Ecology Center’s Board of Directors, crediting her experience with shaping her leadership skills and environmental career focus.
Located 45 minutes north of San Francisco, Sonoma Valley is known for its Mediterranean climate, fertile soils, and scenic landscapes. Home to historic vineyards, parklands, and diverse ecosystems, the valley provides a living classroom for place-based environmental education.
