EnergyUnited is making a profound difference in communities across North Carolina, blending philanthropy and hands-on support to address critical needs. In October, the EnergyUnited Foundation awarded $100,000 to four nonprofit organizations through its large grant program while leading hurricane recovery efforts in Western North Carolina with $41,000 in donations and a team of over 100 personnel.

In October, the EnergyUnited Foundation awarded $100,000 to nonprofit organizations through its extensive grant program. Four nonprofits were selected from 37 applicants, each receiving $25,000 to advance their mission of providing critical services in EnergyUnited’s service area.

The grant recipients are:

  • Children’s Home of Iredell County: Funds will support renovations for children displaced by abuse or neglect, including structural improvements, insulation, and furnishings.
  • Carpenter’s Hands Mission of Davidson County: The grant will fund materials for repairing storm-damaged homes and building accessibility ramps for individuals with disabilities.
  • Home Solutions of Davidson County: Funds will facilitate emergency home repairs for veterans, seniors, and low-income homeowners.
  • Family Promise of Davie County: The grant will provide shelter and supportive services for families experiencing homelessness.

“These nonprofits embody the mission of the EnergyUnited Foundation,” said LaQuisha Parks, vice president of energy services and corporate communications. “They address housing, utilities, and other essential services—cornerstones of hope and stability for families in our communities.”

The grants are funded through EnergyUnited’s Operation Round-Up program, where over 82,000 members voluntarily round up their monthly electric bills to the nearest dollar. Contributions, which average less than $12 per year per participant, are pooled to support individuals, families, and nonprofits.

EnergyUnited has also stepped up to aid recovery efforts following Hurricane Helene, which caused extensive damage in Western North Carolina. The cooperative, its employees, and the EnergyUnited Foundation donated $41,000 to support regional disaster relief.

  • $11,000 was contributed by EnergyUnited employees.
  • $5,000 was donated by EnergyUnited to the Human Connections Fund, managed by North Carolina’s Electric Cooperatives, to support those affected by natural disasters.
  • The EnergyUnited Foundation contributed $25,000 to Samaritan’s Purse, a global disaster relief organization.

In addition to financial support, EnergyUnited deployed over 100 employees and contractors, including linemen and field personnel, to restore power and rebuild critical infrastructure in the hardest-hit areas.

“The cooperative spirit is about more than delivering energy. It’s about serving people, especially during times of need,” said Thomas Golden, EnergyUnited’s chief executive officer. “The generosity of our employees, the Foundation’s contributions, and our crews’ dedication reflect this spirit.”
