, a global leader in electrification and automation solutions, has solidified its position at the forefront of Cavotecmaritime clean technology with a newly signed €8.1 million ($8.75 million) contract. The agreement, secured with a major global container shipping company, calls for the delivery of comprehensive shore power systems for a series of newly built container vessels. Deliveries are set to commence in the second half of 2026.
The order includes Cavotec’s state-of-the-art cable management reels and marine-grade weatherproof enclosures—key components designed to enable vessels to safely and efficiently connect to onshore power while docked. The shore connection system allows ships to switch off auxiliary diesel engines, significantly reducing emissions of CO₂, nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides, and particulate matter.
Cavotec’s shore power solutions represent a highly engineered approach to energy transfer in ports. The company’s cable management reels are designed to handle high-voltage cables with precision and safety, preventing cable damage and minimizing maintenance requirements. The reels offer automated deployment and retraction of power cables, optimizing port turnaround times and reducing human intervention.
The accompanying weatherproof enclosures provide critical protection against the harsh marine environment, safeguarding sensitive electrical systems from saltwater corrosion, humidity, and extreme temperatures. This attention to durability and reliability makes Cavotec’s equipment ideal for global deployment in a wide variety of port conditions.
The shore power system's design also adheres to IEC/ISO/IEEE 80005 standards for high-voltage shore connection (HVSC), ensuring global interoperability and regulatory compliance.
The contract further strengthens Cavotec’s long-standing collaboration with the customer, who has previously incorporated Cavotec’s shore power cable management technologies across its fleet.
According to David Pagels, CEO of Cavotec,
“This contract confirms Cavotec’s strong position in the growing shore power market and marks a new milestone in our collaboration with one of the world’s top shipping companies.”
With port cities increasingly adopting shore power mandates to improve air quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, Cavotec’s systems provide shipping operators with a turnkey pathway to regulatory compliance and sustainability leadership. The company’s innovations directly support the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) 2030 decarbonization strategy and help operators meet ESG targets.
