Bloomberg has signed a power purchase agreement with SunEdison to buy 2.9 MW of DC solar energy for its Rockland County, NY, data center.
The plant will offset more than 5 percent of the data center’s total energy needs and save the company more than $2 million. It will cut carbon dioxide emissions by 11,600 metric tons during the term of the agreement. The plant will be completed during the fourth quarter of next year. Bloomberg and SunEdison are founding members of the Business Renewables Center.
The power will be provided under a state-wide remote net metering program. Since the electricity will be delivered over existing power lines, the program will enable Bloomberg to use renewable energy without building facilities at its site, according to the press release.
Last week, First Solar and Austin Energy said that they have signed a power purchase agreement under which the Texas city will receive solar power from the company’s 119 MW AC East Pecos Solar Project. Austin has committed to buying 600 MW of power over the term of the contract. The facility is expected to come on line early next year.
