Electrify America tapped Engie Insight to provide utility expense, data management, and rate monitoring and optimization solutions as part of a $2 billion, 10-year investment in zero-emission vehicle infrastructure, access, and education in the United States.

Despite having an estimated 800,000 electric vehicles on the road supported by around 18,000 charging stations, the United States lags in adoption, the companies say. Based in Reston, Virginia, Electrify America is currently investing in approximately 900 charging stations nationwide by mid-2019.

In order to help Electrify America deploy a subscription-based payment option for EV charging, Engie Insight agreed to manage the processing of utility monthly invoices and contracting supply rates within deregulated markets on behalf of the Volkswagen subsidiary. Volkswagen AG previously set up Electrify America as part of its agreement after admitting to diesel emissions cheating, Reuters reported.

Last year, Walmart announced plans with Electrify America to add electric vehicle chargers at more than 100 locations across 34 states. Most of those are slated for stores located near highways.

“Although modern EVs have been on the road since late 2010, fewer than 50% of all Americans have ever heard of a zero-emissions vehicle and even fewer have ever researched one,” Electrify America’s site says. Their plan for 2027 calls for providing support to current electric vehicle owners as well as those interested in learning more about driving one.

Engie Insight’s leadership is already familiar with electric vehicles. Last summer CEO Mathias Lelievre and his colleagues traveled to 10 American cities in 10 days using EVs. Along the way, they met with thought leaders and discussed how data, energy, and sustainability are becoming increasingly connected.

Recently Lelievre underscored that Engie Insight supports Electrify America’s mission. “By applying our advanced analytics tool to the electricity consumption of hundreds of charging stations nationwide, we look forward to helping Electrify America optimize its energy supply strategy as it advances towards its 2027 goals,” he said.
