Renewable Energy World reports that the U.S. Army has signed its biggest renewable energy deal.
The power purchase agreement (PPA) with Apex Clean Energy will provide 65 MW of solar and wind to Fort Hood in Texas, which is about 60 miles north of Austin. The 30 year deal is for 15 MW of solar power and 50 MW of wind power. The Army will pay Apex as much as $497.4 million, which would represent savings of about $168 million over traditional sources, the story said. The wind farm will be built in Floyd County, TX.
Late last year, Siemens was awarded a $24 million energy savings performance contract by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to be the long-term partner on water and energy infrastructure projects for the Corpus Christi Army Depot (CCAD) in Texas.
