Las Vegas Raiders: Advancing Sustainability and Community Support

Posted

The Las Vegas Raiders have released their 2024 Impact Playbook, providing a comprehensive overview of their sustainability achievements, community investments, and equity initiatives. Allegiant Stadium, a centerpiece of the Raiders' efforts, has made significant strides in resource conservation and energy innovation, solidifying its position as a leader in sustainable sports venues.

Sustainability at Allegiant Stadium

Allegiant Stadium is fully powered by renewable energy, a milestone that earned it two Green Sports Alliance Play to Zero Awards for energy and waste management. Through innovative practices, the stadium saved 535 million gallons of water in 2024 using efficient fixtures and diverted over 3.6 million pounds of waste from local landfills. This includes 747,580 pounds of food scraps repurposed for livestock farms and 74,973 watts of energy generated from a cigarette waste-to-energy program.

Ray Brown, Vice President of Facility Operations at Allegiant Stadium:
"Our stadium’s cutting-edge design and sustainable practices not only enhance the fan experience but also minimize our environmental footprint. By prioritizing green technologies and efficient resource management, we are setting a new standard for stadiums everywhere. Together, we are building a future where sports and sustainability go hand in hand."

Community Impact

The Raiders Foundation distributed over $1.7 million in grants and in-kind donations to support local nonprofits and community programs. Notably, the inaugural Silver & Black Gala raised $500,000 for the Legal Aid of Southern Nevada’s Resiliency & Justice Center, which provides critical mental health and justice services. In addition to financial contributions, the Raiders diverted over 73,000 pounds of food and durable goods to local charities, reducing waste and supporting vulnerable populations in the Las Vegas area.

Barbara Buckley, Executive Director of the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada:
"There are not too many organizations like the Raiders that recognize mental health. Their contribution directly supported our upcoming Advocacy & Justice Complex, which will serve as the first victims’ rights center in Nevada and provide justice and a place to heal for survivors of violent crime."

Equity and Inclusion

In 2024, the Raiders ranked in the 90th percentile for workforce diversity among NFL teams. Employee resource groups such as F.I.E.R.C.E. (focused on female empowerment) and B.A.S.E.D. (supporting Black employees) fostered internal growth and strengthened the Raiders' inclusive culture.

Comparison to Other Sustainable Stadiums

The Raiders’ sustainability efforts place Allegiant Stadium alongside other leading green sports venues. Levi’s Stadium, home to the San Francisco 49ers, holds LEED Gold certification and features a 27,000-square-foot green roof to reduce energy use. Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home to the Atlanta Falcons, is the first LEED Platinum-certified stadium, excelling in water efficiency and renewable energy. US Bank Stadium, home to the Minnesota Vikings, integrates advanced stormwater management systems and energy-efficient designs. Similarly, SoFi Stadium, shared by the Los Angeles Rams and Chargers, prioritizes natural ventilation and extensive EV charging facilities.
