Canada’s Largest Communications Company Turns to Smart Energy

Bell, Canada’s largest communications company, has announced it will use smart energy management solutions (EMS) to help Canadian businesses transform the way they manage their energy usage.

The current initiative aims to broaden Bell’s EMS portfolio by offering energy management “as a service” to simplify the process of managing complex systems. Bell will partner with Gridpoint for implementation of the EMS.

“Energy costs and environmental management are significant expenses for businesses of all kinds, and Bell is pleased to partner with GridPoint to offer flexible EMS IoT solutions that can be simply integrated into existing building management systems,” said Nauby Jacob, Vice President, Products and Services for Bell Mobility. “Bell’s EMS portfolio offers a range of turnkey and customizable solutions across all sectors that will help customers achieve their energy management goals.”

Through this partnership, Bell is looking to support productivity enhancements, improve environmental and asset sustainability, and drive profitability.

This is not the first energy efficient initiative Canada has taken on. In 2015, Airtron Canada performed heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) and Building Automation Systems (BAS) maintenance services for more than 600 Ontario government buildings, which translated into 21 million square feet of facilities in buildings like laboratories, office buildings, correctional facilities and detention centers.

Also in 2015, Ameresco Canada announced it would renew and upgrade the energy systems on two campuses of Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario. The $15.5 million contract covered work on 26 buildings on both the Symons and Traill College campuses.
