The Newton (IA) Daily News says that the use of wind power is reducing energy rates in the state.
The story notes that Facebook’s Altoona datacenter is completely wind powered and that almost one-third of the state’s power comes from that source. That, the story says, is “a claim no other state can match.”
The story says that the wind business is great for Iowans. It focuses on TPI Composites and Trinity Structural Towers. The firms, which build wind turbines and towers, employ more than 1,100 people. Wind power also is a big deal to the education system in Iowa: Des Moines Area Community College, Iowa State and other schools offer wind maintenance and engineering programs. The state also is a welcoming host to datacenters, the piece says.
In May, The Oskaloosa Herald reported that a solar installation at Huffman Welding and Machine in Fort Madison, IA, in December, 2015, produced $10,000 worth of electricity and is working as expected.
