salesforceSalesforce.com has agreed to buy 24 MW of wind-generated power from EDF Renewable Energy, according to Bloomberg.

The Salt Fork Wind project in Texas will be completed this year. The deal, the story says, follows an agreement last month in which Salesforce.com agreed to by 40 MW of power from a wind farm in West Virginia. Both deals are virtual power purchase agreements that don’t require direct transmission lines between the source and the user.

The past two months have taken Salesforce.com a long way toward meeting its goal of using only renewable power: The 64 MW of capacity is more than the company used last year, the story said.

The explosion of datacenter requirements is forcing the industry sector to scramble. One area of research is increasing datacenter efficiency. Fan design, according to DatacenterDynamics, is an area that is particularly ripe for study.
