Mobile EV Charger Tackles Off-Grid and Emissions Pressure

Posted

Two UK-based firms have joined forces to address a pressing issue in the energy transition, namely the lack of flexible, off-grid charging solutions that meet tightening emissions standards. Fellten, an electric vehicle systems manufacturer, and retrofit emissions specialist Cybrand have developed the Charge Qube—a mobile energy unit designed to support electric vehicle (EV) charging in locations where grid infrastructure is limited or non-existent.

Housed in a compact 10-foot container, the Charge Qube offers both AC and CCS fast charging, powered by repurposed second-life EV batteries. This circular design approach extends battery usability beyond the automotive sector, aligning with broader sustainability goals. The unit includes built-in energy storage and smart energy management features, enabling users to better align charging with energy demand and reduce costs where possible.

Modular in design and scalable for different environments, the Charge Qube is engineered for real-world scenarios including remote worksites, logistics depots, and public events. The mobile setup supports both overnight and temporary charging needs while offering grid support functions that can help businesses reduce energy consumption spikes.

Targeting Compliance and Operational Flexibility

The collaboration addresses a dual challenge facing many commercial operators: the need to meet stricter environmental regulations while maintaining operational efficiency. With Clean Air and Low Emission Zones expanding across urban areas in the UK and Europe, fleet operators are under growing pressure to reduce vehicle emissions without disrupting services.

Fellten and Cybrand’s solution allows businesses—particularly those running legacy fleets or operating in infrastructure-limited areas—to maintain compliance while transitioning toward electrified transport. From local councils managing public vehicles to logistics providers navigating last-mile delivery in restricted zones, the Charge Qube provides a flexible, low-emissions solution that avoids the delays and costs of permanent infrastructure upgrades.

The partnership reflects a wider industry trend toward integrated systems that solve multiple challenges—clean energy access, emissions reduction, and cost efficiency—all within a single deployment.
