The program includes an exploratory first semester, where students learn about career pathways in technician roles, engineering, environmental science, and agriculture. The second semester focuses on work-based learning experiences with industry organizations to provide real-world exposure.
The Pathways to Green Energy Career Program is supported by Golden Grain Energy, Alliant Energy, North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC), and the Iowa State University Research Park.
NIACC has a history of supporting workforce development programs in North Iowa, including the John V. Hanson Career Center, which offers academies in advanced manufacturing, construction trades, information technology, and health careers. NIACC’s Education to Employment initiative provides students with career coaching, resume assistance, and job placement support.
Renewable energy adoption continues to grow, increasing the demand for a skilled workforce. Programs like Mason City High School’s Pathways to Green Energy Career Program help students gain practical skills and career experience.
