Legoland Florida and Tampa Electric are erecting a 2MW solar array at the theme park, which is located in Winter Haven, according to The Orlando Business Journal.

The solar canopy will be built upon the preferred parking lot adjacent to the park's entrance. The lot is big enough to accommodate 600 cars. When it becomes operational later this year, the solar panels will produce enough electricity to power 250 homes. The story says  that Tampa Electric will incoporate the power into its grid.

The solar canopy is one of several environmental projects Legoland has undertaken. The park already supports solar power: A 30KW array is mounted atop the Imagination Zone.

GRID Alternatives is offering free technical advice on a number of issues regarding the use of solar power in affordable housing.
