Doka Aligns with Science Based Targets to Decarbonize Construction

Doka, a global leader in formwork and scaffolding, is the first in its industry to commit to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This commitment aligns the company with the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C target and underscores its determination to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through science-based methods. 

Construction’s Role in Global Emissions

The construction industry is responsible for approximately 37% of global greenhouse gas emissions, making it a critical focus in the fight against climate change. The sector faces mounting regulatory demands and a growing need for sustainable practices. Doka views this challenge as an opportunity to reshape its business models for long-term resilience.

By committing to the SBTi, we are demonstrating that sustainability is serious business. Sustainable practices are key to helping our customers thrive in a futureproof construction industry.”

Net Zero by 2040: A Science-Based Approach

As part of its "Net Zero 2040" strategy, Doka has pledged to reduce emissions across its operations and supply chain by at least 42% by 2030. The targets cover:

  • Scope 1 and 2 Emissions: A 42% reduction in emissions from direct operations and purchased energy.
  • Scope 3 Emissions: A 42% reduction across the supply chain, addressing indirect emissions from sourcing, transportation, and use of products.

These reductions align with SBTi’s framework, which helps companies set measurable, science-backed climate goals.

Tangible Steps Toward Sustainability

Doka is making significant progress toward its sustainability targets through a series of concrete actions. At its Austrian headquarters, the company operates entirely on renewable electricity, supported by photovoltaic systems. Circular economy initiatives are central to its approach, with formwork refurbished at service centers to minimize waste and extend product lifecycles.

Low-carbon innovations, such as the use of recycled materials and intelligent heated formwork, enable the application of CO₂-reduced concrete in construction projects. Additionally, Doka has calculated the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) for its portfolio of 7,000 products and co-developed industry standards for emissions reporting, ensuring transparency and accountability.
